GARRETT CHOW: ALL CHIPS ON THE TABLE

Last Friday a group of racers met at the MASH shop to race the Cutty Cross Cat, ultimately ending at Garrett’s opening of his installation at Rapha, across town. Enclosed are some moments from November 2nd’s events, and details from the show that runs through the end of the month.

The Cutty Cross Cat race was made up of 5 checkpoints inside 3 different parks in the city. Racers needed both road and dirt skills to compete in this one.

Evolution: The entire show funnels through this bike in my opinion. Years and years working as an artist and graphic designer lead Garrett to this personal project.

The Rapha Cycling Club was a perfect space for the opening-party and show. This morning I went back to spend some time with the show.

Zdenek Stybar’s World Champion cyclocross bike is on display, but will leave it up to you to get the show, and enjoy it in person!

This section feels like mind-mapping. All these layered moments and memories are inspiration for design and where bikes are born.

The entry wall displays race kits, and photographs of the bikes Garrett has designed for MASH over the years.

This diagram illustrates the contour displacement analysis frames go through, and how that in turn translated to a 2013 Specialized Venge concept-bike.

This is an example of a design-intent study for Tom Boonen, that progressed into production. Seeing these mock-ups in a more raw form than production, shows that magic leap that all production models go through.

The show’s layout begins with blank white paper, turning into sketches and inspiration; mixed with photographic memories. These components progress into bike-specific sketches that grow into a hand-painted frame set. From there, prototypes lead to current production models, and custom team bikes.

Stop by the Rapha Cycling Club this month, and take time to see how Garrett puts it all together!
