SURF-CITY: IN THE TRENCHES

This past weekend was a CX double header. First with Dylan and Chas sweeping the podium in the SSCX A’s. The next day I drove the team down to Aptos to race the Surf-City Halloween Classic. This course is a favorite to many, with it’s unique natural features, tons of single track, some bigger climbs, and a few costumed racers to keep things festive. Enclosed are some moments captured with trying to help keep the guys hydrated on course.

The Elite Men A’s and the A’s SSCX raced together at the end of the day. The temperature was mid 70’s, and there was no proof of the previous weeks rainfall.

Rainier earned the start whole shot, in a group of Bay Area heroes.

Scotty Chapin easily doubled as Brian Wilson, keeping in theme with The Giants sweeping the World Series later in the day.

Easier said then done

This deep rut descent was a sight to be seen. Soft and loose earth kept it tough keeping a line.

Aptos High School is built on a hillside, creating different levels withing the course. Derek winding through what would normally be the back side of the football field.

Blake has spirit. Illustrated here as a cutty Tri racer. Needs clip-ons for next year’s upgrade.

Garrett and Blake raced in the Single speed A’s group.

Kyle held a strong race, finishing 5th in the geared A’s. Not bad for a guy in pig-tails.

There is a great deal of poison oak on course, so the cold outdoor showers were popular on this day.

Fast Dudes

Thanks to the organizers for continuing to make Surf-City a great series.

Pan American Velodrome, Santo, Domingo, Dominican Republic.

I have traveled quite extensively this last month, and made sure to keep Jsn’s trusty Olympic Stylus full.  As I get film back I will be sharing these experiences.  These are a few from our trip to the Dominican Republic.

Crihs and Lucas, first day out.

Lucas, shredding.

Crihs, rain delay.

Lucas, dodging cows.

Island life.

Lucas, on fire.

Because it was there.

I would follow Lucas (almost) anywhere.

Straight line navigation.

Lucas, cooling off.

SUPPORT CHUEY

We are receiving late news that our friend Kachusha Munkanita is in need of legal support. He is one of the most peaceful people we have met, so when a story was published about his arrest, the bike community took notice. In short, he was arrested for watching 3 young people being arrested in the Mission, and wanting advocate for their saftey.

The least we can do is help gather resources for when he needs them. We are offering our Histogram Cap, with 100% of the profit (about $7 each) going to help support legal fees Chuey will incur.

Help support this local hero in the simplest form, and Get a cap. Once an additional fund raising event has been organized, we will post it here.

We will update you once we know more.

CINELLI The Art and Design of the Bicycle

Today marks the release of Rizzoli’s new book, Cinelli: The Art and Design of the Bicycle, covering the history of Cinelli’s product innovation. This 288 page hardback covers many topics from history, art, technical advances, to the designers and athletes who have been the life-force of this historic brand. This was a special project organized by Lodovico Pignatti Morano. The effort was extensive, and the end result is fantastic. Without using the internet as a scanner, we wanted to share with you some details from this release, and hope you will add it to your library.

ALL CHIPS ON THE TABLE

On Friday November 2nd, Rapha and MASH will host a timeline of Garrett Chow’s cycling related artwork. A group of street/cx racers will meet at MASH at 5pm to register for the first of the 2012/2013 Cutty Cross Cat events. The race will finish at the Rapha Cycling Club, where racers will be awarded. The reception opens at 7PM, so bring friends and family to celebrate, who we consider to be, the most exciting designer in modern cycling.

Madonna del Ghisallo

While in Milano, our friends at Cinelli took us up the hill to spend time with the Madonna del Ghisallo. Garrett has spent time here in the past, and made it a requirement for our visit. Without posting what has been published in the past, we can promise this is inspiring stop for any cyclist visiting the Lake Como area.
