Chas Christiansen and Matt Reyes

A few weeks back, we brought Matt and Chas out to the green hills to shoot a new video. While Martin is chopping down hours of selects, we thought it would be fun to share a clip on Matt’s Birthday. Happy Birthday Shredder!

RAINIER SCHAEFER

When you visit with Rainier, the emits a sense of calm. He is thoughtful, and does not speak to fill in the gaps of silence. Watching him on the bike you can see those moments of peace, but it is the power he puts down on the pedals that motivates us to this day. We have traveled the world together racing bikes, but going to Yosemite to shoot him descending Tioga Pass is something we will never forget. He was truly in his element there and our cameras witnessed it first hand. Take a moment to also watch him share how he fell in love with the track bike, as he prepares his meals for the week.

MATT REYES

As we launch into 2017, let’s do it with the energy and control of Matt Reyes. Matt is a Bay Area icon. As a local, you will see him lane split you in the car while manualing down Oak, or some other risky/fun line while commuting through San Francisco. Matt has released endless edits over the years, and Martin and I knew we could make something special together. This part was shot over 2 sessions. Albatross bars day, and rack bars day. I had just gotten back from Berlin, where Mo at Keirin traded me a circus bike. This was an early trick bike, and the first style of bikes to ever use pegs. Matt wanted to ride it. We put air in the rotten tubulars, and he was out the door. Within a couple minutes, he was bombing Sanchez Street from the top, on a tiny peg, of a shaking artistic cycling bike, that had never seen the top speed it was engulfed in. The last this we shot was the burning man decompression party. This city is always in a state of flux, and Matt is always down to see it in the moment, and create with the city we love. Enjoy!

Sean Geivett

While shooting an video to celebrate TCB, we shot with Sean. Chas was helping produce the schedule for us to meet riders when/where, in thier work day as messengers. The plan was to meet Sean on the top of Franklin Street, and drop it toward the Marina. We met up, had camera issues, left, and regrouped before getting the last shot in his chapter. Once we knew we wanted to create a bigger part for Sean, we looked to Yerba Buena Island to start him out. With killer views, and steep roads under construction, it fit the part. Look for the bonus features in a week or two. Finishing up now.

Commuters

When we are out shooting on the streets, Martin and I would run into all types of people, often with the same purpose. Getting from A to B. Over the years, we saved up all of our favorites, and rewarded them with thier own chapter. Enjoy

011 MASH 2015 WALTON AND KYLE

This chapter is very personal for me. Walton has been part of MASH since he was 17 years old. We have traveled around the world together, and have cheered for him as he grew up, and began to race on the road. Kyle and Walton are friends from Portland. They both moved to SF to go to school, and we immediately got hooked on this Portland tribe. Both Walton and Kyle ripped on track bikes. They figured them out, and became very expressive on them. We would get out and shoot video from time to time, but once we locked down shooting a bigger video project, they where both committed to their road teams, and could not afford a possible injury.  We premiered a version of our video last fall, without Walton and Kyle’s part. It was a clear hole in my heart, and I wanted them to be able to express themselves in this way. After Europe, and Asia premieres, Walton had talked Kyle into coming down, and they had been planning some locations they wanted. Once it was all set, they surprised Martin and myself, by letting us know they wanted to make something. Let’s get out, and see what we get. With a day with Walton, and a day with both riders, we created a massive part in the video. It shows how playful and how serious these bikes can be, and we are honored to be able to share their section with you.

Brandon + Hunter 2015

By running a bike shop, we have a door to our community. Friends visit daily, and we are constantly meeting new faces from around the world. The shop has 2 people that fix bikes, and ship orders. While shooting video, Brandon and Hunter ran the shop together. They became great friends through the shop, music, bikes, photography, travel, and on down the list. Martin and I went to Oakland, and jammed around with Hunter, then met them both at the shop, to do another city loop. We thought this footage was going to go into the friends part, but it ended up being a really fun and sometimes heavy section on it’s own. Enjoy

HIGHWAY 1

It timed out that while Kyle was in town, a section Highway 1 was closed for erosion. This is a dream descent on a road bike, and the guys knew that if they had access to both lanes, they could rip down this section. Martin and I headed out, and shot a few passes as the sun went down, and this edit shows the highlights. There is a ton of dirt on the road from the construction vehicles, but the tires are smoking on their own.

FRIENDS

Over the years of shooting videos, there were several friends we would run into while in the streets. We compiled these vignettes into an edit of friends. We love when riders visit from out of town, state or out of the country in a few cases. Hit us up! Let’s get out and shoot.
